Her willingness to go out of her way for a colleague reflects a deep understanding that nursing is a team effort and that supporting one another ultimately benefits our patients as well.
I would like to take a moment to recognize an extraordinary nurse whose actions exemplify what the nursing profession truly represents.
Nursing is not only about clinical skill and knowledge, but also about compassion, teamwork, and a willingness to support others when they need it most. Dominique demonstrated all of these qualities in a way that left a lasting impression on me.
During a particularly demanding shift at work, when the pace was relentless and the responsibilities felt overwhelming, she noticed I was struggling and stepped in without hesitation. What stood out most was that she was not obligated to do so; she simply chose to help because that is the kind of nurse and person she is.
She offered assistance, encouragement, and practical support that helped me regain my footing and continue providing safe care to my patients.
You see, in healthcare, it is often the quiet acts of kindness and professional solidarity that make the greatest difference. Her willingness to go out of her way for a colleague reflects a deep understanding that nursing is a team effort and that supporting one another ultimately benefits our patients as well.
Her actions reminded me why nursing is such a respected profession. She demonstrated humility, empathy, and a level of professionalism that inspires those around her. Nurses like her elevate the culture of the workplace and remind us that compassion is not only something we give to patients, but something we should also extend to each other.
For these reasons, I believe she truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award. Her dedication, generosity, and unwavering support of others make her more than deserving of this recognition.
I also want to add that working as a float nurse comes with a unique set of challenges that many people outside of the role may not fully understand. Each shift often means walking onto a unit that is unfamiliar, working with new workflows, caring for patients you've never met, and adapting quickly to different teams and expectations, all while being expected to perform at a high level and provide safe, compassionate care.
It can feel isolating at times because you are constantly stepping into environments where you are not part of the regular staff. That is why it meant so much when she stepped in to help me.
Her willingness to support a float nurse without hesitation showed not only kindness, but a deep respect for the teamwork that nursing truly requires. In a role that can sometimes feel like you're standing alone, her actions reminded me that compassion among colleagues is just as powerful as the care we give to our patients."
