From the moment you spoke, your dedication to patients and your love for nursing shone through every word.
Diane, I hope you are having a wonderful time at your Fulfillment Celebration! I call it that intentionally, because “retirement” could never fully describe you. Nursing has always been more than a job for you — it’s your calling, your ministry, and your lifelong passion. I still remember the day we met, when you interviewed for the CNL position on 2N.
From the moment you spoke, your dedication to patients and your love for nursing shone through every word. You carried a calm confidence and a clear sense of purpose — qualities that have never wavered throughout your time with us. I knew then that we were gaining someone extraordinary, and you have proven that true every single day.
Over your 22 years of service at Wellstar Douglas Medical Center, you have embodied the heart and soul of nursing. Your commitment to patient care, clinical excellence, and compassionate leadership has touched countless lives — from the patients and families you’ve comforted, to the nurses you’ve mentored, to the leaders and physicians who hold you in the highest regard. You have truly made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside you.
Your work has shaped our culture of care in profound ways. You’ve improved patient outcomes, reduced hypoglycemic events, enhanced the workflow for HD patients, and supported our journey toward two Pathway designations and 2N’s very first PRISM Award. Yet beyond all the measurable outcomes, what defines your legacy is how you’ve made people feel — valued, supported, and inspired to give their best. You’ve been a tireless champion for safety, quality, and recognition.
Through your dedication to the DAISY and ROSE Awards, you’ve made sure every nominee’s story was heard and every honoree celebrated. The passion in your voice each time you read a story reminded us all why we chose this profession — to care deeply, serve faithfully, and make a difference.
Your leadership has always been rooted in empathy. You honor every voice, uplift every teammate, and foster an environment where everyone feels seen and respected. You have built bridges between frontline nurses, students, and leadership — creating a true sense of collaboration and shared purpose. And in doing so, you’ve left a legacy of unity and excellence that will continue to shape Wellstar Douglas for years to come.
As you begin this next chapter, I hope you carry immense pride in the legacy you’ve built. You’ve led with compassion, strength, and grace — and though we will miss you deeply, you leave us better than you found us. As you once said at the AACN Conference, “Douglas may be small in size, but we are mighty in what we accomplish.” You helped us find that mightiness.
Now it’s time to trade those navy blues for blue jeans, the sensible nursing shoes for hiking boots, and chart reviews for the novel waiting on your nightstand. May your sunrises be slower, your days fuller, and your heart light knowing that your impact continues to ripple through every nurse you’ve guided and every patient you’ve touched.
Diane, your lifetime of service reflects the very essence of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award — a nurse who has devoted her career to healing, mentoring, and leading with compassion. You have set a standard of excellence that will inspire generations to come. With love, gratitude, and the utmost respect — Congratulations, Diane Giles, on your DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.
