We all know that we work with an amazing peer, but sometimes, when someone constantly shines bright without allowing the outside world to affect his day, we forget how fortunate and blessed we are and forget to show how much we appreciate him and her.
Mr. Marshburn just surpassed his 10-year anniversary. I have worked alongside him in various capacities for eight of those years. Mr. Marshburn's versatility, knowledge, flexibility, and patience are incredible.  Mr. Marshburn is the consummate team player.  He will come in on short notice if we are short-staffed.  He will come in on his day off and help with shopping trips, events, and any activity that is asked of him, cheerfully and without question.  When Forensic 2 was an 8-hour unit and he worked 3-11 alongside me, I cannot count the number of times the Nurse Administrator would ask Mr. Marshburn if he was willing to stay over and help on another unit, and he was willing to do so when possible. It did not matter to him if he had to go to the busiest units.

One time during a Code Yellow on AMH, Mr. Marshburn, who was not listed as a responder, still went over to assist AMH. He got injured, breaking ribs, and was off work. An incident like this might deter most people, but another time on our unit while I was present, we had an Individual out of control and Mr. Marshburn was hit in the face, breaking his glasses, and he still held on until it was safe to let go.  He put the safety and welfare of the Individual and other staff members ahead of his own.

The Individuals like and trust Mr. Marshburn, whom they feel comfortable and confident calling "Mr. Dennis." He is genuine, caring, and compassionate, and the individuals sense and know that he truly cares for them.  Mr. Dennis is able to gain the trust of new, paranoid Individuals very quickly so that they will take the medications that they fear.

What prompted me to write this nomination now was the fact that I recently worked alongside him on the floor, each taking a group of Individuals as we were short HSTs. For four hours straight, I watched with awe at how much he could accomplish and how much he cared. We all know that we work with an amazing peer, but sometimes, when someone constantly shines bright without allowing the outside world to affect his day, we forget how fortunate and blessed we are and forget to show how much we appreciate him and her.  On behalf of all individuals and employees in our unit, we extend a grateful thank you to Mr. Dennis Marshburn. You are a valuable member of our team!
