I saw Denise after a sexual assault, and she demonstrated how she made a meaningful recovery, weeks later, when I needed care for a sensitive difference: examination. She provided kind and sensitive trauma-informed clinical care and did all she could to give me back some measure of control over the situation. During the exam, she made sure to tell me about everything she was going to do and let me choose my positioning, which made me feel safe. She never once seemed rushed or like I was taking up too much of her time. When she had to refer me to a specialist, she went out of her way to make sure I got an appointment as soon as possible. Her questions were thoughtful and showed she cared about me as a person and not just another task on her to-do list. She followed up with me about my test results promptly, and on one day when she wasn't working, she made sure to designate someone else to reach out to me with the test results so I didn't have to wait. In the middle of a highly stressful time of my life, Denise has helped remind me that there are still good people in the world.
