I witnessed firsthand the most compassionate care given by a clinic nurse, Denise Williams at Family Medicine West Waterloo. A patient came into the clinic with her dad for her 3-year-old well child. She brought along her ped stuffed animal husky named Slushie.

As we all know, the doctor’s office can be a scary place for little ones at times. Denise went above and beyond to make the child feel ever so welcome and not scared. She used her normal chart prep rooming sheet and not only took down the vitals for the patient, but Slushie got his own personal vital sheet and concerns addressed as well.

The best part of the story is when the patient and her dad came to the front to check out, the provider had gone along with the story the entire visit as well and checked Slushie out too. He made sure they both got suckers, stickers, and a new buddy for Slushie, a teddy bear. It goes to show how much of a difference we truly can make. Denise, you’re an outstanding nurse, and our clinic and patients are blessed to have you!
