September 2026 Honoree
Deena Hamza, RN, PHN
During my recent stay at Fairview Ridges, I had the privilege of being cared for by Deena, and I can say, without exaggeration, that she changed the entire tone of my hospital experience. Hospitals are stressful places by nature, but Deena has a way of making the environment feel calmer, safer, and more human from the moment she walks in the room.
What stood out most wasn't just her clinical skills, though she was always on top of everything, but the way she carried herself with such steady kindness. She explained things clearly, checked in with genuine concern, and treated me like a person instead of a task on a list. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed, and she had this almost effortless ability to ground the situation with her calm presence. It's the kind of care you can't teach; it's who she is.
There was a point during my stay when I realized I wasn't just feeling taken care of. I was feeling looked after. That's a rare difference. Deena showed up with compassion every single time she entered the room, and that consistency made a real impact on me. I left the hospital feeling grateful not just for the treatment I received, but for the humanity she brought into it. Deena is the kind of nurse who makes people wonder if she's secretly running the whole hospital. She is exceptional at what she does, and the way she made me feel will stay with me long after my discharge. She embodies everything the DAISY Award is meant to honor.
