Debbie Weissman is an extraordinary nurse who has left a permanent imprint on my life.
When I was diagnosed with kidney cancer, my world turned upside down. I was at my lowest—frightened, physically unwell, and emotionally overwhelmed. That’s when I met Debbie Weissman, my oncology nurse, who has since become a beacon of strength and compassion in my life.

From the very first day of my IV treatment, Debbie didn’t just administer care; she brought hope into the room. Her calm presence, deep knowledge, and unwavering kindness were exactly what I needed to begin healing. She went far beyond her call of duty, checking in on me emotionally, advocating for me with the medical team, and ensuring every detail of my care was perfect, from how the IV was administered to making sure I was as comfortable as possible during long infusion sessions.

There were times I arrived for treatment barely able to speak, drained from both the illness and the emotional toll. Debbie would take one look at me and know exactly what to do. She spoke gently, cushioned me with several pillows because I was so fragile, offered warm blankets, and reassured me with quiet confidence. I never felt like just another patient; I felt seen, heard, and genuinely cared for.

Now, over four years later, I am thrilled to be in full remission, yet I still receive IV treatments every four weeks. Each time, I look forward to seeing Debbie. Her consistency, grace, and heartfelt care have never wavered. She remembers my milestones, celebrates my progress, and continues to treat every visit like it matters.

She makes a difficult journey not just bearable, but meaningful. Debbie Weissman is an extraordinary nurse who has left a permanent imprint on my life. She embodies every value the DAISY Award stands for—skill, compassion, advocacy, and excellence in nursing. I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
