It is with great pleasure that we present today Debbie Thomas with the prestigious DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. This award recognizes individuals whose extraordinary contributions have profoundly impacted our community and set a standard for excellence in their field. Debbie has dedicated over 42 years to Oncology Nursing, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the care of the oncology patient in both radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and medical oncology. She has worked on several research protocols that have assisted in the advancement of Oncologic care. Her remarkable journey is characterized by her involvement in research, standardization of practice, updating policies, and implementing a scheduling system. She was involved in the creation of a knitting club at NYP-W dedicated to the well-being of the staff at the hospital. She has participated in numerous community events over the years, including, but not limited to, breast cancer walks, bake sales, Nurses' Day, and community events at Gramatan Village, where she teaches members of the community how to knit. This is more about combating social isolation of the elderly than knitting, as it brings members of the community together to socialize. This initiative has helped countless individuals within our community. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Deb is known for her mentorship and support of others. She has consistently encouraged and nurtured the talents of the staff in the Cancer Center and has been instrumental in fostering a culture of compassion and excellence. She has encouraged new nurses to participate in committees and to continue on with their education. She embodies the spirit of the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Her legacy of excellence, passion for Oncology Nursing, and dedication to others make her a truly deserving candidate for this honor.
