Both B and I are extremely grateful for Debbie's help and feel that she should be recognized for handling herself professionally and gracefully in an extremely difficult situation.
My wife, B, had an appointment with N at Bellin Health and Rehabilitation. When we were pulling into the parking lot, B said that she had had "an accident". When we arrived at the office, I went up to the admitting clerk and asked if they had anyone who could help us. I explained our situation, and Debbie came out to find out how she could help.
My wife is partly paralyzed and suffers from neurogenic bowel and bladder. She is prone to severe diarrhea. We had no supplies with us, and my wife could only be transferred from her wheelchair using a "sit-to-stand." Debbie scrambled to gather equipment and supplies, and we were forced to use a small ladies' room with virtually no ventilation.
We managed to stand B up in a borrowed sit-to-stand, and pulled off her pants and diaper. All of this required considerable physical effort since B cannot do very much to help herself. The scene was a total nightmare. There was feces everywhere. Debbie bravely did her best to clean B up while I supplied her with wet paper towels from a dispenser. By the time that we finished up, both the temperature of the room and the smell were unbearable. I personally was amazed that I did not vomit.
Debbie was totally professional throughout the whole situation. She helped us the best that she could and made sure that we made our appointment with N.
