My daughter and I met a group of nurses and staff members who not only reflect what I believe Parkland stands for but also made a very difficult situation easier. The situation that brought a loved one to Parkland was stressful and difficult as most of the visits can be. My daughter was here due to being a victim of a crime. As a mother and a nurse, I was a bit in shock. I have been in the nursing profession for 40 years, and I had no idea what to do in this situation. Thankfully, the staff guided me in such a way that was helpful and so beneficial to my daughter and me. My daughter did not want to come in, and she finally decided to. The first person that my daughter was in contact with in the care area was this nurse. She is not only professional but caring, supportive, patient, and able to calm and guide my daughter through this process. I am so thankful she was part of the team that cared for my daughter. This nurse also allowed me to vent and reminded me ever so gently that my daughter may not want me there at all times during this process. I knew that, of course, but I did need a reminder. This nurse was phenomenal and I appreciate her so much.

My daughter was so apprehensive about this entire situation, which is understandable. The care and commitment were absolutely incredible. I watched my daughter go from a nervous wreck to a much calmer person during this process. She was guided through this step by step. Every step of this process was explained in detail, and there was also time allowed for her to process and ask questions. Her questions were answered each and every time. My daughter was provided with information about the process that was complete and concise. So much information was given to my daughter that was so important. Resources provided and written documentation of everything related to this situation were greatly appreciated. My daughter was overwhelmed by the amount of information provided. Everything was given to her in writing to review after leaving Parkland. She was glad to have everything she needed. The professionalism, level of knowledge, and privacy provided were very important and appreciated.

My daughter is doing very well after this event. I attribute this to being guided and assisted through this process by a group of wonderful people. She is a strong person, but this was a shattering experience. The care, compassion, and respect she was shown made this process easier, and I am sure will help her on her healing journey.
