Even though I'm a stranger to her and she didn't know my past experiences she made me feel as comfortable as possible. She listened to my endless fears.
I've been coming to this hospital for years due to various medical issues including, trauma, childbirth, and open-heart surgeries. I also have autism and my childhood was traumatic. On top of that, my daughter passed away at five months old. My best friend took his life and almost killed me too. Due to this trauma, I have anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. I've had some very bad hospital experiences and started to avoid hospitals due to this.
Although I was terrified to come in today, I knew I needed to. The moment I came in I almost left. I was already in tears and scared when Dawnyshia came in. Her presence, smile, gentle voice, and patience gave me hope. I began to trust that tonight would be ok, and my care would be taken seriously. She went above and beyond to stay by my side. She talked me through every question I had and made me feel safe. Even though I'm a stranger to her and she didn't know my past experiences she made me feel as comfortable as possible. She listened to my endless fears.
She provided knowledge and comfort I haven't had in so long. I contemplated just going home instead of seeking care because it wasn't worth someone ignoring my needs because I was annoying or too much. She made my whole experience. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have stayed. People like her are the reason I feel safe and continue to come back. I will forever remember her kindness.
I could tell she was busy, but she never changed her smiles, conversations, and care. She took her time and really focused on me and my needs. I won't hesitate to come back when I need care.
I know I'm only one patient but if she did this for me, I can only imagine how many others she has done this for. She deserves more than an award and if I had to recommend anyone for outstanding care and treatment it would be her.
