I want everyone to know how lucky and thankful I am to have Dawn Linville, RN, in NICU as my coworker! My dad was admitted with a DVT and multiple other symptoms that at the time did not have a diagnosis. Shortly after being admitted in the early morning hours, the travel nurse who had him was attempting to hang an Argatroban drip. The nurse looked at me and asked if I knew anything about this drip. As a NICU nurse, I absolutely knew nothing about it, but I knew Dawn might know.
I went and asked Dawn to come to my dad's room because she picks up extra hours on that unit. When she came in, I introduced her to the travel nurse, who was very glad to see her. Dawn called the IV pharmacy to get some help and questions answered for the nurse. She went above and beyond to help the nurse out and ultimately to help my dad get the medication he needed. As a family member, I had lots of questions about the plan of care. Dawn was able to assist us in being able to talk to the doctor and have our questions answered.
As the day went on, I reached out to Dawn multiple times to get her advice and have her help me understand how things work on an adult floor, as I have always worked in the NICU for 23 years. She also walked me through why some things were being done. I do not believe I could have made it through that day without her!
Dawn is a shining star!! Later in the day, Dawn came out to my dad's room expecting me to be gone. She was checking on him to make sure he was ok and that he didn't need anything. Dawn talked to him, and it made him feel so special to know how much she cared. Before she left the hospital that day at the end of a 16-hour shift, she checked back in to make sure my dad didn't need anything else.
Dawn is an amazing nurse/coworker who made my whole family feel extra special! I can't say enough positive things about her. She is someone who doesn't do things for recognition; she does things because she truly cares! My family will forever be thankful that Dawn was working a 16-hour shift during one of the hardest times in our lives!
