All of the staff at St. Vincent Carmel has been amazing, but one in particular has gone above and beyond what I ever expected a nurse to do. Dawn came in to give me my meds, and she could tell something was bothering me. She asked if I was ok. I said no. She said, "Do you want to talk about it?" and I started crying, sharing some very hurtful things that were going on in my life. After opening up to her, she got very close to my bedside and just listened to me. I needed a friend that night. She was so patient and kind and stayed a while at my bedside. I was sobbing. I noticed she was holding back tears as well. She took my hand and said, "Can I say a prayer for you?" I said, "Yes, please." I couldn't control my tears. When she said 'Amen,' I said it too. We were still holding hands, and after the prayer, we looked each other in the eyes for about 15 seconds. She was simply what I needed that night. A friend, a prayer, and someone who was truly genuine with me. I told her 'thank you' and squeezed her hand before letting go. After her shift was over, instead of just leaving for the night, she came back by my room to make sure I was ok! She went above and beyond for me, and St. Vincent is lucky to have such a caring and comforting nurse. She rocks!
