Dawa Bhuti, BSN, RN
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for Nurse Dawa Buti, who took care of me after my kidney transplant surgery while I was in Kimmel Pavilion, 12th floor.
The first few days after surgery were not easy for me. I had complications, and I was physically and emotionally feeling very low. During that time, Dawa went above and beyond in every possible way to make sure I was not only medically safe, but also emotionally supported and cared for as a person.
By day 5 or 6, I truly looked and felt like a mess, but Dawa treated me with so much kindness and dignity. She even helped me clean up and wash my hair, which meant more to me than I can ever explain. That kind of care takes a rare level of compassion, patience, and humanity.
What made her even more special is how she constantly made sure my spirits stayed high. She would sing beautiful Hindi songs to comfort me and bring positivity into the room, and honestly, those moments gave me strength when I felt like I had none. She also helped my sister navigate everything while she stayed with me, making sure she felt supported too.
Dawa also stayed on top of my recovery in a very proactive way. She made sure I did my walks and physiotherapy, encouraged me gently but firmly, and helped me become mobile again. When I was considered a fall risk, she made sure I was always assisted and safe.
She was extremely attentive with all my care needs, including ensuring my IVs were changed on time and that nothing was delayed. The fact that she spoke my language made it feel even more personal and comforting during such a vulnerable time.
Dawa is not just an excellent nurse; she is a truly exceptional human being. I will always remember the care and warmth she gave me during one of the hardest days of my life. I would highly recommend Nurse Dawa Buti to anyone, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had her as part of my transplant recovery journey.
