I want to take a moment to nominate a nurse who is long overdue for recognition. David Tavera not only helps those around him-he inspires me personally to become a better healthcare provider and a better person. His knowledge and experience are extensive, and his example is one I strive to follow. David exemplifies the highest standards of nursing practice and is a shining example of UMC's ICARE4U values. His unwavering positivity, boundless energy, and tireless dedication to his patients and colleagues set him apart as a truly exceptional Registered Nurse.

As a Wound and Ostomy Certified Nurse, David's clinical expertise is matched only by his compassion and professionalism. He consistently goes above and beyond-not because he is asked to, but because that's who he is. Whether it's staying late to ensure a patient's needs are fully met, mentoring new staff, or advocating for improvements within the department, David is always driven by a deep sense of responsibility and care.

I would like to highlight a particular experience. While assisting with a wound dressing, we encountered a patient with multiple additional concerns-both medical and personal. Without hesitation, David addressed each issue with empathy, skill, and genuine kindness. He involved physicians, the primary nurse, and other support staff, effectively becoming the coordinator and bridge of communication to elevate the patient's care. From taking the patient to the bathroom to ensuring medications are ordered correctly and helping others understand the patient's needs, he truly made a big difference in this patient's life. From the patient's perspective, he didn't just perform the task at hand-he ensured they felt seen, heard, and cared for. Ultimately, the patient was extremely grateful and became emotional due to his actions. This moment wasn't an exception; I realized this is David.
