Mr. David Nyarko, RN, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for his outstanding clinical judgment, professionalism, and compassionate response during a critical patient safety event in Adult Primary Care.
A patient was determined to be at high risk for depression and active suicidality when RN Nyarko followed emergency protocols, supported communication efforts, and helped to ensure the safety of the patient, visitors, and their colleagues while effectively managing the compassionate and high-quality care required for this patient.
Collaboratively, he safely escorted the patient to a higher level of care for further evaluation and treatment and debriefed his team afterwards. His teamwork, dedication, and commitment to the well-being of his patients and colleagues, in addition to his calm presence during this high-risk situation, were life-saving and embody the values of compassion and excellence that this award recognizes and celebrates.
