David not only carried out his regular nursing duties with extreme professionalism, compassion and care, he emotionally supported the patient and the patient's family.
MW was hospitalized on SICU, floor 5 for several days following a hemicolectomy. At the age of 91, she was very disoriented and anxious, especially at night. The second night following surgery, she wanted to get out of bed and the on-call resident refused to allow her to get up, even though there was no clear order to not allow her out of bed. The next morning, when David found out about the restriction, and it was not clear why she was being restricted, he intervened on her behalf with the attending physician who wrote clear orders that she was allowed out of bed. This was an amazing act on David's part, to proactively advocate for a patient. I have never seen a nurse intervene that way in SUPPORT of a patient's well-being. All David's efforts occurred following Haldol being used the night before to keep my mother in bed. After being allowed out of bed, she had no further extreme problems at night. David not only carried out his regular nursing duties with extreme professionalism, compassion and care, he emotionally supported the patient and the patient's family. He stands head and shoulders above other nurses on the floor, in the hospital, and in general. THANK YOU for doing more than taking care of my mother, but actively advocating for her well-being.
