Darcy Chabot, BSN, RN
There are truly no words that can fully express how grateful I am for the care I received from my labor nurse, Darcy Chabot. From the moment she walked into my room until after my son was born, she never left my side. She was calm, compassionate, and completely present through one of the most frightening and life-changing moments of my life.
During my labor, I experienced a placental abruption. Everything changed so quickly, and what could have been overwhelming felt manageable because of her. She kept me informed, reassured me, and made both my boyfriend and me feel safe despite the uncertainty. Her calm presence gave us confidence when we needed it most.
When my son was born, I was not able to hold him right away. Without hesitation, Darcy gently placed him into my boyfriend's arms so he could have that first special moment with our baby while making sure I knew my son was safe and loved. She even took the sweetest video of him holding our son for the very first time because she knew I could not be the one to hold him yet. Because of her thoughtfulness, we have a memory our family will cherish forever.
Darcy went far beyond providing excellent medical care. She noticed every little need before I even had to ask. She helped me get comfortable, even putting my postpartum pad on for me when I was not able to. She constantly checked on my pain, my emotions, and my well-being. No task was ever beneath her, and she treated me with such dignity, kindness, and respect. She did not just care for me as a patient. She cared for me as a person. She made my boyfriend feel included and supported, and she celebrated the arrival of our son with us while never losing sight of the medical care I urgently needed.
Because of her compassion, attentiveness, and extraordinary nursing care, one of the scariest days of my life is also remembered with immense gratitude. Darcy made a meaningful difference not only in my outcome but in the experience my family will carry with us forever. She is everything a DAISY Award Nurse represents, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
