Thanks to Dana, he survived to get to the other hospital.
My husband, J, came in, in grave condition, to the emergency department at Berger Hospital. While all the people he encountered that day were good people who helped him in so many ways, Dana Liston, an emergency RN, was with him for hours. I watched her as she provided intense critical care to my husband, never faltering, never panicking, always with a kind and peaceful demeanor.
Even when things weren’t going well for J, she remained calm, cool, and collected. She treated me with compassion and understanding as she did my husband. We were there for hours before he was stabilized enough to be helicoptered. She never left his side. She kept her eyes on him and gave him the exact care that was needed. She was so skilled; I was so impressed. She provided an atmosphere of confidence and compassion; I cannot stress enough how she made me feel that my husband was in the best place he could be under her care. I’m forever grateful to her not just for her incredible skill and knowledge but for the way she made me feel calm when all I wanted to do was cry. She did that just by being herself; her warm and caring attitude made all the difference that day.
Those hours we spent with her in that emergency room that day left an incredible, amazing impression that I’ll never forget. I want her to know what an amazing nurse she is, but also what an incredibly beautiful person she is. I’ll never forget her. I’m happy to say my husband survived that whole experience, though the road ahead of him is going to be difficult. Thanks to Dana, he survived to get to the other hospital.
Thank you, Dana. God bless you.
