Dalton is the kind of nurse every family hopes for when their loved one is at their most vulnerable.
My mother was admitted with a brain bleed that was ultimately diagnosed as an AVM. After her first interventional procedure to occlude the AVM, she suffered a repeat bleed and was rushed to emergency open brain surgery, one of the most terrifying moments our family has ever faced. Dalton was her nurse as she returned from that high-risk surgery. As a nurse myself, I watched him closely, and I can say without hesitation that his clinical knowledge and attention to detail were exceptional at every turn. He was present, engaged, and diligent throughout the entire shift.

My mother was awake for much of the shift, but due to periods of apnea, the team was unable to extubate her for hours after sedation was stopped. Being conscious and intubated is an incredibly frightening experience for anyone, but for my mother in those circumstances, it was especially distressing. Dalton was at her bedside nearly the entire time. His calm presence, his reassuring words, and his genuine compassion helped her find moments of stillness in what was an otherwise terrifying situation. He had a gift for making her feel safe and cared for, even when words weren't possible.

At one point, while she was awake and still intubated, my mother had an episode of vomiting. Dalton acted immediately and decisively. He leaped into action, coordinated the team, and ensured she was transported to CT without delay to rule out a rebleed. His response was swift, skilled, and unwavering. He did not stop working, advocating, or supporting her for a single moment. Dalton is the kind of nurse every family hopes for when their loved one is at their most vulnerable. He brought not only skill and vigilance to my mother's care, but also a humanity and warmth that carried our whole family through one of the hardest days of our lives. We are forever grateful.
