The staff advocate for the patients and go above and beyond every day to care for them as if they were their own family.
My team is a multidisciplinary team that cares for those who suffer from mental illness and those who feel they have hopeless life situations. The unit works in a team model and helps to keep everyone as safe as possible and to provide the best mental health care in the area. Our patients write many, many positive comments on their care and list many staff by name in their Press Ganey comments in a positive way. Several patients have nominated staff members for the DAISY Award as well as a Team Award. The team on D-7 is very astute and attentive to details and safety aspects. The team consistently enters Midas reports, has one of the highest inpatient overall unit scores on Press Ganey, has very thorough documentation for patient care, and has attended almost all Code Greys to help other units. The unit is well respected in the Psychiatric Institute and has gone several years with no citations from DOH during annual surveys. This summer the unit went 3 months without a fall and has great trending with minimal Seclusion hours. In the Fall of 2022, the unit will be closing as the new Joint Venture between Geisinger, and Acadia will open. It is my hope that my unit would be recognized for the outstanding work they consistently do day in and day out. The staff on this unit deserve this recognition for their consistent hard work and their genuine care for patients. The staff advocate for the patients and go above and beyond every day to care for them as if they were their own family. Our staff looks at the entire health and well-being of the patient. Overall medical, mental, emotional, spiritual health of every patient is valued and looked at. Every year our night shift staff collect new donated items of hats, gloves, crossword puzzle books, candy, playing cards, etc. so on Christmas morning staff give a gift bag to every patient on the unit so they have something to open. A large number of our patients do not have family or loved ones who interact with them, so the staff does nice things for them to help them feel valued. Staff most recently got some necessary groceries and cat food delivered to a patient’s elderly father as there was no one who could do it since he was the only caretaker. The staff on the unit model the behavior we would want to see of ‘caring’ people and do it with genuine hearts and wanting the best for their patients. So, it is for all these reasons and more I feel the whole team on my unit deserves The DAISY Team Award. Thank you for recognizing the work they do here day in day out.
