No matter how many times she calls out, no matter how difficult the night may be, Ross meets her with patience, warmth, and unwavering compassion.
| We have a patient in our care who is developmentally delayed and was admitted for surgery and IV antibiotics. For her, being in the hospital is especially overwhelming. She struggles to understand why she’s here, and she’s extremely sensitive to sounds and smells that many of us take for granted. Understandably, she often feels scared and disoriented—and frequently uses her call light simply to have someone stay with her. We do our best to meet her needs, but it’s not always easy. Yet through all this, one nurse has consistently been a source of comfort and calm for her: Ross. She lights up when he walks into the room and personally requests him whenever he’s working. No matter how many times she calls out, no matter how difficult the night may be, Ross meets her with patience, warmth, and unwavering compassion. The bond he’s built with her is nothing short of extraordinary. Watching Ross care for this patient—night after night, with grace and empathy—makes me incredibly proud to be part of UCSD. His dedication has made her hospital stay not just bearable, but meaningful. For someone who struggles to feel safe, Ross has become her safe place. I truly believe he deserves to be recognized for the outstanding, heartfelt care he provides—not just to this patient, but to all those lucky enough to be in his care |
