Courtney was my preceptor during my summer nurse internship, as well as during my last semester of nursing school preceptorship. She is the most amazing nurse I’ve ever had the honor to follow. She embodies all of CHI’s core values of compassion, inclusion, integrity, excellence, and collaboration. Courtney takes her time with patients and gets to know them and better understand them. She takes time out of her busy day for “spa day with her patients”, providing baths to patients who haven’t showered in days or have matted hair after long days in the ICU. She provides individualized and person-centered care to all of her patients. Courtney has helped to shape me into the nurse I will be and the person I am. She has taught me that patients are not seen as a diagnosis, but as individuals who deserve our full care and love. She has taught me to be patient and kind to all those I meet. Courtney taught to spread kindness, smile, and search for the good, even through the hardest days. I am so blessed to have been precepted and learn under one of the best nurses I’ve ever met. I strive to take her practices and empathy forward in my nursing care, hoping to have even half the impact on other students as she did for me.
