An elderly man spent his birthday in the hospital alone. No family came in to see him. He was depressed, and you could tell he was sad and alone. Courtney took the time to go down to the cafeteria and get a slice of cake to go with his lunch tray. She gathered a few team members and told us his situation, and we were all in. We walked into his room, greeted him and then sang “Happy Birthday.”

The man’s eyes opened, and he gave a crooked, yet bright smile. I never saw him smile until this moment. If it was not for Courtney taking the time and putting the heart and thought into this beautiful moment, he would not have had the experience of actually having a happy birthday while you’re in the hospital by people who are taking good care of you. Courtney is always putting her patients’ needs and concerns ahead of everything, and she is such a delight to work with!
