I watched her take the time to listen, observe, and truly invest in a care plan that would help our girl feel less anxious so she could do what she needed to recover (eat, sleep, and move).
Courtney came on her shift as our day nurse after a really tough night. Our daughter was in quite a bit of pain, which had caused her anxiety to really skyrocket. Every single time Courtney came into our room, she just brought a feeling of “I care about you” and “we can problem solve this.”
I never felt like we were being a burden or bothering her. I watched her take the time to listen, observe, and truly invest in a care plan that would help our girl feel less anxious so she could do what she needed to recover (eat, sleep, and move). It’s hard to describe how much the little things meant when it came down to it. The way Courtney cared was obvious in how gentle she was when helping us shift and make small adjustments that made a night-and-day difference when it came to comfort.
Comfort seems like a small thing until it makes it really hard to sleep or eat. As a nurse, Courtney was always professional, but she also seemed to see us as whole people who needed holistic care. I just can’t explain how grateful I am that Courtney was assigned to be our nurse. I felt so much better about how things were going and my ability to help my daughter because she was there to support me as a parent.
