Nurses like Cory are the reason why I stay in healthcare.
Evidence shows that effective preceptorship fosters crucial skills, increases job satisfaction, and improves patient care through professional role modeling. Effective preceptors are characterized as mindful, flexible, proactive, encouraging, and skilled in providing constructive feedback.
As a nurse, it’s hard to ask for help and to admit that you feel like something is wrong. That was me, in the ER with chest pain, nervous, and telling myself I didn’t need to be there. Cory was my nurse. He asked me if I was okay with having a nursing student start an IV on me if they’re allowed. I, of course, said yes! This student was so nervous that when she found out I was a nurse, she was even more nervous. Cory never missed a beat; he was the perfect amount of gentle and firm when instructing her. We both gave her some tips and tricks on how to set herself up for success. In that moment, I felt like I was a part of the team instead of the patient. It helped ease my anxiety, and I am so, so grateful for Cory and the team. Nurses like Cory are the reason why I stay in healthcare.
Thank you will never be enough.
