She is the most compassionate nurse and made a huge difference in my hospital course and my physical and emotional healing.
My Dad was a patient here last fall and received excellent care from so many on every unit!
He did have one nurse whom he felt was exceptional, and he asked how he could be sure she was recognized, so I suggested a DAISY nomination. I finally took the time to write the nomination on his behalf, including the notes I took about her from him as well as several direct quotes:
I have been a patient at CAMC for bladder cancer for the past 2½ years. In the fall, I had an abnormal CT scan, requiring a biopsy. The following day, I experienced severe abdominal pain and was admitted. Over the next several days, I had many tests, labs, and procedures. My pathology results came back: primary liver cancer.
Also, during my stay, I had a heart cath. I had severe disease and was transported to the ICU on a balloon pump and heparin drip. The next day, we had a family meeting with the doctor and his team and all three of my children. The information was sobering. The surgery was considered high risk, and the outlook was grim.
The next day, I had double bypass surgery. It could not have gone any better! No post-op complications! I received excellent care from every unit - 5 South, 6 Front A-Pod, OHRU, and 6 Front-OHPC- but it was on 6 Front-OHPC where I had the privilege of being cared for by Corie Sigman.
She would open the door and immediately smile that beautiful smile every time she came into my room! I live alone, and I knew I would need liver cancer surgery and treatment once I healed from my heart surgery, so my anxiety was fairly high at times!
To have a nurse recognize that and be able to naturally calm and assure me was unexpected and so appreciated! Seeing her and trusting her with my care gave me a peace and calmness that is difficult to describe. As long as she was there, I knew everything was going to be ok, and I didn't need to worry.
She is the most compassionate nurse and made a huge difference in my hospital course and my physical and emotional healing. She took a genuine interest in me, always asking about me and my family. She is amazing! It was like God had sent an angel to care for me!
Just her presence in my hospital room, no matter what the task, was more medicinal and healing than any pill or other medicine I was given! Just hearing her voice made me better.
I wanted to recognize her for her compassion, healing touch, and lasting impact she made on me and to honor her in some way. I learned of the DAISY Award, and I knew immediately that she needed to be recognized for her exceptional care.
I cannot imagine anyone more deserving than Corie!
