My father, now 95 years old, is a cancer survivor and has seen his fair share of nurses through the years. My family has watched him be cared for by great, good, and mediocre nurses. Today, we would like to nominate Coraline, an extraordinary nurse, for the DAISY Award. I am currently writing this with my father in the hospital bed beside me. He is very ill and has very little dignity left. Coraline restored dignity to my father through compassionate care, and my family is deeply grateful. Coraline did nothing for my father without first asking for his permission. She spoke in a gentle voice, yet with enough volume for my father to hear. She is the epitome of what a nurse should be. Coraline was very timely when we pushed the help button. Not once did we have to go searching for her to help. She explained each medication clearly before giving it. I could go on and on, but in a nutshell, Coraline is what every nurse should be. She is compassionate care above and beyond
