She was incredible and gave me peace, comfort, confidence, and the bravery to face life's challenges.
One morning, toward my due date with my first child, I woke up and didn’t feel any movement from him. I knew something was wrong because he was usually kicking or moving around. We went in to make sure everything was okay, and they were able to find his heartbeat right away. We were so relieved! Then, out of nowhere, his heart rate dropped. I’ll never forget that moment. My husband and I were terrified. I was having a hard time breathing, and fear was overtaking me in every way. Nurse Consuelo laid her hands on me, and suddenly, I was utterly overcome with peace. I felt like I could breathe again and focus on what needed to happen to keep my son safe. My husband and I discussed the impact her touch had on me, and we knew we’d never forget Nurse Consuelo. She was incredible and gave me peace, comfort, confidence, and the bravery to face life's challenges. She stayed with us while they got my induction started. His heart rate would fluctuate, but everything ultimately turned out okay. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
About two years later, I was in labor with my daughter. Everything was going great until her heart rate dropped out of nowhere, similar to my son’s birth. This time, it stayed low and never rose again. We knew something was seriously wrong and that she needed to come out immediately. They checked, and I was at a 10 and ready to push. I was hysterical. I truly felt like I was dying from fear. I couldn’t breathe or think straight. The room filled up due to the situation, and I recall feeling overwhelmed. Then, out of nowhere, I felt this touch on me, and it had the same effect. All of a sudden, I could breathe and focus on what the doctors and nurses were telling me to do and how to get my daughter out as fast as possible. I was once again completely overcome with peace. My husband and I noticed this effect and looked up to find nurse Consuelo! We remembered her right away. The Code Blue situation brought in people from all over, so we never had the opportunity to talk to her afterward. She wasn’t my assigned nurse but showed up when we needed her most. I often wonder what would have happened if she wasn’t there.

I believe she played a crucial role in saving my daughter’s life, as every second mattered in her situation. The umbilical cord tore during labor, so she was without blood flow and oxygen, resulting in HIE. She almost didn’t survive, and honestly, she probably didn’t have the time for an emergency c-section. The fact that I could calm down, focus, breathe, and listen to the doctors played a significant role in getting her out in only six minutes. Any longer, and I don’t know if we’d be celebrating her first birthday next month.
I will never forget Nurse Consuelo and her God-given gift as a nurse. The incredible care and compassion she provides her patients are special. Thank you, nurse Consuelo. My family is forever grateful. My daughter’s brain injury was on the severe end at the start. Her EEG test showed hardly any activity for four days. We were being told that she may never eat on her own, breathe on her own, walk, etc. A few days later, we believe a miracle happened. She started significantly improving, and her two MRIs showed almost no brain injury. One tiny speckle that the neurologist wasn’t even confident enough to call an injury. She started breastfeeding in the NICU and was sent home after 11 days when we were told months. Today, she’s hitting every milestone on time, if not ahead of schedule, and she even started taking steps a few weeks ago. It’s an incredible story, and I want Consuelo to know her significant role.
