I am writing to nominate Connie, an extraordinary nurse in the ICU, for the DAISY Award. Connie provided unparalleled care and compassion to my beloved wife, A, and our family during the most devastating time of our lives. A, a 31-year-old mother of three young children, was admitted to the ICU with a severe anoxic brain injury.

Tragically, it became evident that recovery was impossible. In accordance with her wishes, A was taken off life support and peacefully passed away. During these agonising days, Connie’s unwavering presence provided A with comfort and dignity. Connie’s dedication to her vocation was evident in every interaction. She showed profound compassion not only for A but also for me and A's mother. She ensured A's comfort was always prioritised, especially during her trip to the MRI, where Connie's gentle care made a difficult situation more bearable.

In the hours after A was taken off the ventilator, Connie was incredibly supportive. Her empathy and thoughtfulness helped us navigate those tender moments, bringing a sense of peace to an otherwise unbearable situation. Connie’s ability to provide such dedicated and compassionate care during A's final days is a testament to her exceptional commitment as a nurse. She truly embodied the spirit of nursing, offering not just medical care but profound human kindness when we needed it most. Connie is a remarkable nurse for her unwavering compassion and dedication.
