It was the interview between Colleen and my mother that choked me up; Colleen was able to communicate with my mom, removing a 60-plus year age gap like she had known my mom forever.
I met Colleen when she transported my mom from the ER to the room. At first, I thought she was just in transportation but shortly found out she was my mom’s evening nurse. Obviously concerned about my mom’s condition after a fall which left her in severe pain, unable to move, and confusion from the meds and unfamiliar surroundings. This is when my transportation nurse turned into a human Angel, taking control of the transfer from the gurney to the bed effortlessly. But it was the interview between Colleen and my mother that choked me up; Colleen was able to communicate with my mom, removing a 60-plus year age gap like she had known my mom forever. She made sure my mom answered the questions directly even when it took Colleen several different approaches to get the answers. I was able to leave the hospital that night knowing she was in incredible hands. I spent the next morning with my mom waiting for the doctors. That night, I stopped in to check on my mom. When entering the room behind the curtain, I heard my mom laughing with Colleen. It was awesome to hear someone so in tune with a patient bantering and communicating like old friends while administering her care. Good Shepherd must have access to the nurse heaven above. Colleen’s knowledge and compassionate care make her an incredible representative of your hospital. Thank you, Colleen.
