He treated the patient concern with respect and urgency, showing every voice matters and every detail contributes to healing and dignity.
I would like to nominate Colin Scantlin for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for his extraordinary compassion, responsiveness, and communication to patient centered care.

During a recent visit to St. Mary's Hospital, Colin took the time to round on the unit and engage directly with patients.  While speaking with one patient, Colin learned of the individual's deep concern about the condition of the American Flag flying outside the hospital.  The patient shared that the flag was weathered, partially detached and not being displayed with the dignity it deserved. For this patient it wasn't just the fabric- it was the symbol of respect, honor and care.

Colin did not just listen; he acted. Recognizing how important this was to the patient, he immediately contacted the appropriate team to have the flag replaced. Within 3 days a beautiful new flag was proudly flying in front of the hospital.

Although the patient was discharged before it was hung, we were able to share the news with him before he left.  He was touched and expressed that he would make a point to drive by and see it himself.

This small but powerful act demonstrated Colin's unwavering dedication to our values- particularly Care Like Family and Rooted in Community.  He treated the patient concern with respect and urgency, showing every voice matters and every detail contributes to healing and dignity.

Colin exemplifies what it means to serve with heart. He truly uplifts humanity-one conversation, one action at a time.
