Then in walks Nurse Cindy Hayes with her awesome sense of humor, her eagerness to make sure I was comfortable and being taken care of, and just her great spirit and happiness to be at work, on the night shift, might I add!
Because of the seriousness of my situation, I was looking death in the face. Let me tell you, this is not a good feeling at all. I was transported over 150 miles, without any family members, to Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama, to be treated by some of the Finest GI Doctors in the Business. They told me my liver was not fighting off a virus in the way it should, and in all their years, they had not seen a liver in this bad of condition. So, honestly, I was starting to accept that this was it, and was not feeling too good inside.
Then in walks Nurse Cindy Hayes with her awesome sense of humor, her eagerness to make sure I was comfortable and being taken care of, and just her great spirit and happiness to be at work, on the night shift, might I add! She instantly made me feel that I was going to be well taken care of, and I had nothing to be worried about. And during the week and a half I had to be there, I felt this feeling stronger and stronger each and every time she came in with this same great spirit to assist her patients.
I know for a fact, God put Cindy Hayes in this field of work. And when it came time for me to go home and was being escorted out in a wheelchair, Cindy was getting off a long shift. She spotted us and instead of rushing out like we all do when getting off work, she came over and took the time to ride the elevator down with the escort and me, and she encouraged me to get to continue to get well. All I could do was just jump up, with tears of appreciation running down my face, and give Mrs. Cindy Hayes a hug and tell her, “I thank you a thousand times for everything you've done for me.”
