Cindy has been my infusion nurse since I started my cancer treatments in March of this year. I chose to use the new cold cap system in order not to lose my hair during chemo. This process is complicated and has to be very exact and it added another element to my treatment. Cindy could not have been more helpful in working around my cold cap system, always with a smile and some lightening comment which created joy for me and my cold cap team member.
Since I never got a chemo orientation, nor did I receive the wellness notebook until halfway through my treatment (due to them being out of print), Cindy stepped in and helped me understand the process as I was like a deer in the headlights. She would often give me things to read which were applicable to my situation which helped me better understand what was happening and why it was happening, she was my constant support.
I told her after I got settled from my move to Texas, that I wanted to start a cold cap program for other women with breast cancer. She remembered reading about how another hospital had put a program together and thoughtfully brought the article in as she thought it might help guide me through how to do it. That is far and above what I would expect of a nurse, but Cindy is just that kind of person.
We had wonderful conversations through each treatment, which made my experience so much more uplifting. We have shared so much together I feel like she is more of a friend than a nurse. I have never felt so cared for.
Cindy is what I call a "gem" because she is the kind of person who is rare to find. Please take good care of her as she has done to me.
