May 2026 Honoree
Christy Spada, Registered Nurse
It is my great honor to nominate Christy S. for the DAISY Award. A breast cancer diagnosis has landed me in Piedmont Henry Hospital for surgery 4 times in the past 11 months. My most recent was with Christy S. as my pre-op nurse. From the minute I put on my yellow socks, gown, and jiffy pop cap, I was greeted by a beautiful smile that lit up the tiny space assigned to me for the most dreaded part of surgery: “the pre-op.” Since I was 2 years old, I’ve been afraid of needles. And to make things even worse, I was told I was a “hard stick.” So you can only imagine the torture it has become for me to have an IV inserted. Christy, my angel, reassured me that day she would be mindful of this and make the experience as painless as possible. Unlike most nurses, Christy gently found the right place to insert the IV and pointed out the exact spot on my wrist for future IVs if I ever needed one. I cannot praise Christy enough for going out of her way to make me feel like the most important patient of her day. She listened to all my concerns and met all my needs, no matter how small. I know nursing is a calling, and Christy S. has definitely been a true asset to your hospital. God bless.
Thank you, Christy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
