She quickly got my daughter back to breathing normally and alleviated her concerns about her oxygen levels.
Christy was in charge of my daughter as she came out of anesthesia after a procedure. I was panicked when we were told someone would be out to get us in 30-40 minutes after the doctor's report, and it had been more than an hour. I finally picked up a phone to try to talk to someone, and it was post-op on the other end of the line. They took some information and then said they would call over to PACU to let them know we were waiting. Christy immediately came out and relayed that it was perfect timing, because she finally felt comfortable stepping away. When I found out why it took a bit longer, I was relieved that it was she who was looking after my daughter. She knew there was a problem after her procedure, as she had some unrelated congestion that was making it hard to breathe once they took the breathing tube out. She wasn’t breathing well, and Christy sat tirelessly next to her trying to relieve her from retracting. She ordered albuterol, and right when we called, she finally felt it was working, and she could take a few seconds to walk out and get us. She could have made a panicked mom feel crazy or like I was overacting. Instead, she said, “That was the perfect thing to do.” She may never know how much that eased my worry and gave me immense confidence that this stranger who was taking care of my daughter was exactly who she needed in those moments. She quickly got my daughter back to breathing normally and alleviated her concerns about her oxygen levels. Had she not been attentive and proactive, we could have had many issues down the road of recovery.
