Christy went above and beyond to be positive and fun when I was having a really hard day, often thinking of fun activities, adventures, or conversations to distract me from the scary things happening.
I was admitted to the hospital several times related to shunt malfunctions and an infection. Christy went above and beyond to be positive and fun when I was having a really hard day, often thinking of fun activities, adventures, or conversations to distract me from the scary things happening. Christy not only connected to me, but my whole family. She took time to learn their names, checking in with them every time she was in the room. My family also says that having her around me helped to cheer me up. Christy was great at communicating plans for medical procedures or the hospital plans and goals for the day. For my last admission, I was returning just a couple of days after being discharged from the hospital. Christy heard I was going to surgery from the ER, and she came down to the pre-op waiting area to say hello and calm my fears, as I was upset to be back again after having a 5th brain surgery in less than a month. Then, one day, after learning how much I was missing my dog, she brought me a stuffed animal dog to help brighten my day since I couldn’t have any of the pet therapy dogs visit me. This helped to comfort me and cheer me up. Lastly, on a busy day when she wasn’t able to be my nurse the whole day, and a day I had had surgery. Christy stopped back after a long and crazy day to say goodbye after her shift was over. She wasn’t my nurse at this point in the day, and she didn’t have to stop in, but she said she couldn’t leave without stopping to say goodbye. This meant so much to me on a day when I had surgery and wasn’t feeling good.
