I would love one day to have the opportunity to work directly with Chris, but for now, I will continue to learn from him by observing.
I often contemplate the true meaning of a leader. What attributes make a good leader? How are you taught to be a good leader? What makes you an experienced and trusted adviser? By definition, a leader is someone who is willing to share their knowledge and experience to help others inspire and reach their goals. Someone who provides wise counsel and guidance. Someone who is hard to find, difficult to part with, and impossible to forget. One who is admired and appreciated.

When reading these attributes, the first leader that comes to mind is Chris Siciliano. Although I do not work with Chris directly, I am fortunate enough to observe his leadership skills through interactions with staff, other leaders, and in meetings. Chris has often reached out to me just to check on my unit and me, and to see if he can help or assist when things are difficult. Chris set up "we care" meetings for 4 East when he knew we were emotionally struggling. He attended those meetings with our staff and assured them that he was available if needed. When we had a planned prayer service for our staff, Chris showed up on the unit to cover for staff who wanted to attend. When the unit was without a director and other assistant nurse managers, Chris would regularly check in with me to see how/if he could help me or the 4 East staff.

I have often confided in Chris with situations where I needed guidance or just a trusted listening ear. Chris does not listen to respond. He listens to hear and understand. He is trustworthy, respectful, and always kind. I would love one day to have the opportunity to work directly with Chris, but for now, I will continue to learn from him by observing. I admire him both personally and professionally. I believe that Chris demonstrates Collaboration, Creativity, Compassion, and Connectiveness with every situation and interaction.
