He rearranged his own schedule, even shifting his lunch breaks to help me coordinate my treatments as a single mom, balancing my son's new work hours and my numerous medical appointments.
Chris was my hyperbaric oxygen therapy nurse. From September through November 2025, I received treatment five days a week, 40 sessions in total, and Chris was an unwavering source of skill, compassion, and support through my healing journey. Every single day, Chris greeted me with genuine kindness. He was never grumpy, never distracted, and never anything less than fully present. My chamber, bed, mask, blankets, ”club HBO bracelet,” and TV were always perfectly prepared and ready the moment I arrived.
He was thorough and clear in every explanation, ensuring I understood each step of my treatment. His knowledge and consistency helped me feel safe and cared for during a very vulnerable period of my life. As a recovering breast cancer patient dealing with severe skin damage and wounds caused by infection, after a double mastectomy, navigating insurance approval for hyperbaric therapy was overwhelming. Chris took that burden off my shoulders. He played a pivotal role in securing the necessary authorizations, following up diligently and keeping me updated at every stage. His efforts spared me a tremendous amount of stress at a time when I had more than enough to carry.
What sets Chris apart is not just his professionalism but his humanity. He took the time to see me as a whole person, not just a patient on his schedule. He remembered the little details: asking about my elderly grandmother, my physical therapy progress, my Crohn's disease, and my son's job interviews and first days at work. He chatted with me about sports and life, creating a sense of normalcy in a season filled with medical appointments and uncertainty. His compassion extended to practical support, as well. He rearranged his own schedule, even shifting his lunch breaks to help me coordinate my treatments as a single mom, balancing my son's new work hours and my numerous medical appointments.
Not once in those months did Chris seem “off” or “not in the mood” to be at work. His dedication was unwavering. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and peace of mind. Very few nurses have the opportunity, or emotional stamina, to see the same patient every day for months at a time. Chris handled that responsibility with grace, patience, and heart. Chris has played a tremendous role in my healing, both physically and emotionally. I am deeply grateful for his kindness, his advocacy, and his exceptional care. He deserves not only a DAISY award, but a field full of daisies. Thank you, Chris, for everything. You have made a lasting difference in my life.
