Whenever Chris noticed he was getting scared or in pain, he would gently redirect him by saying things like, “Hey, did you see the new Spider-Man movie?”
There was a gentleman named Chris Mashula who came down to the ER when my grandson was life-flighted to Mercy. Chris was absolutely amazing with him. My grandson is 13 and had 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-degree burns, and he was very scared. Chris did everything he could to keep him calm. He talked with him while they were preparing to take him to the burn unit (where he spent two weeks).
Whenever Chris noticed he was getting scared or in pain, he would gently redirect him by saying things like, “Hey, did you see the new Spider-Man movie?” He used little moments like that to help take his mind off everything. He truly knew how to support him during such a difficult time and made him feel comfortable and at ease. I want to give a big shout-out to Chris, who helped care for my grandson in the ER that night. He was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t be more pleased with the care my grandson received. My grandson talked about Chris often, and when I brought him back for his next surgery, we made sure to stop and see Chris before we left. Thank you all for everything you did. We were truly blessed to have such a positive experience at Mercy. Thank you again.
