When people think of the Child Birth unit, they think it must be a happy place to work bringing babies into the world; most of the time this is true. But when it's bad, it's very bad. Imagine being told that your unborn child has died or that you are going to deliver a baby that is too small to survive. These are heart wrenching and difficult times for all involved, including staff. But it is exactly these types of patients that Chris Riley volunteers to take care of. She makes sure they have the best experience one could imagine in such an awful situation. She keeps the family informed what to expect both with delivery and also emotionally once they return home with empty arms. She makes excellent molds of the feet and hands and creates beautiful pictures of the infant and family that even we, the staff, admire. Even if she is not assigned this type of patient, she will assist and teach the nurse that is caring for them. She has received such nice notes from these patients thanking her for her care. That in itself shows how well she cares for this patient population.
