I have come to find her as one of the most reliable, resourceful, and efficient people I have ever worked with.
MAJ CHRISTINE JANE D CERRERA O-146442 NC was assigned at Edwin Andrews Air Base Hospital (EAABH) on 01 October 2022- 31 May 2025, designated as Assistant Chief Nurse and Training Officer. She was reassigned at Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary (WASMI) on 01 June 2025, designated as Nurse-in-charge. In addition to her primary duty, she was designated as the Executive Officer of WASMI. The majority of the notable contributions of MAJ CERRERA transpired at EAABH. Nonetheless, even newly assigned to this unit, she has consistently shown her initiative and commitment to go beyond what is expected and help the Military treatment facility to be the best it can be. It is with great pleasure and pride that I endorse the nomination of MAJ CHRISTINE JANE D CERRERA NC of Wallace Air Station Medical Infirmary, 585th ABG PAF, for this year’s PAF Nursing Service “Outstanding Senior Officer of the Year 2025”. She has exemplified a level of excellence in military service and nursing practice among her subordinates and colleagues. I have witnessed how much time and attention she pays to her duty. I have come to find her as one of the most reliable, resourceful, and efficient people I have ever worked with. MAJ CERRERA NC has proven to be an integral member of the unit. She has shown exemplary leadership, innovation, professionalism, dedication, and commitment to her duties. This has allowed her to make an impact on numerous personnel, patients, as well as their families. I, myself, am honored to have gotten the opportunity to work with MAJ CERRERA NC and find her to be a suitable role model for her colleagues and subordinates. I, on behalf of the whole family of WASMI, cannot think of another person who is more deserving of an Outstanding Senior Nurse Corps Officer of the Year Award, simply because MAJ CHRISTINE JANE D CERRERA O-146442 NC is an extraordinary Officer herself.
In April 2025, MAJ CERRERA, in response to frequent code blues in the emergency room, initiated the crafting of a cardiac arrest resuscitation form to address the need for ease in documentation during code blue cases. The EAABH Aeromedical Team, in the pursuit of rendering quality aeromedical services in the AOR, frequently conducts physical or on-site pre-flight assessment and evaluation of patients in the requesting originating treatment facilities. This strategy helps the S7 team with hands-on assessment and prepares necessary flight requirements for the patients being evaluated, and acknowledges patients' clarification/ expectations in the upcoming aeromedical evacuation. It also enhances troop morale during the S7 visit to the requesting treatment facility. When she was assigned to EAABH due to the distant nurses' station from the patient ward on EAABH, she believes that timely patient needs intervention is necessary during admission. She proposed the procurement of an electronic wireless patient call bell to be placed at the patient's bedside, allowing convenient notice of any potential urgent requirement for nursing professionals to attend to the patient's concerns. In April 2025, the project was completely installed using a recycled plastic bottle as casing.
Furthermore, she performed S-7 Missions from different areas of Mindanao and safely air lifted 15 patients of different cases to their destination health facilities from February 2024- May 2025. She earned a total of 42.8 flying hours during the said period. As the Assistant Chief of Nursing Services and Training Officer at EAABH, MAJ CERRERA NC is responsible for making sure that all NSPs adhere to the most recent or updated evidence-based nursing practices and that overall safe and high-quality nursing care is provided. She creates a staffing plan that guarantees a sufficient ratio of nurses to patients. She also worked with several Zamboanga City LGUs to provide training that is necessary for patient care.
She spearheaded coordination on the conduct of Basic Emergency Care Course in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross- Zamboanga Chapter and Health Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), Zamboanga City Medical Center, last 01-05 April 2024. This training prepares the hospital personnel of EAABH for better delivery of emergent healthcare services in a pre-hospital setting with limited resources, and will enable them to manage illness even before the diagnosis is known. This successful training is the very first BEC training conducted in the Philippine Air Force. CPT CERRERA NC was selected by the International Committee on Red Cross (ICRC) Zamboanga Chapter to undergo the 2nd Training of Trainers last 19-20 October 2024. She was the very First PAF NC who completed the said course together with 1 EPRN help at LM Hotel, Tetuan, Zamboanga City. Its mission is to be able to train many frontliners serving in the pre-hospital setting to save lives.
Further, she coordinated the conduct of BEC training among EAAB Personnel, conducted two sessions of the Basic Emergency Care (BEC) course, and a Training of Trainers from 17–28 March 2025 and 10–11 April 2025. Thirty healthcare personnel—comprising doctors, nurses, aeromedical technicians, pharmacists, aidmen, safety officers, and DRTU—participated, primarily from Zamboanga City, with 30 successful graduates and 12 new BEC Instructors. This is the very first batch of BEC TOT with the purely PAF Team. DOH HEMS, and DOH Health Program Office.
She also coordinated the Mode of Agreement (MOA) for Perioperative nursing and Delivery Room Nursing training at Zamboanga City Medical Center, PETRO office, to be able to send nurses for specialty training needed for EAABH Hospital accreditation last January 2024. The Perioperative Nursing training convened last 27 May 2024 and was able to send 1 EP RN for 3 months of training. This is the very first successful Nurse specialty training near the EAABH AOR and will save monetary costs and convenience to the PAF Nursing service trainee while acquiring training specialization. Presently, MAJ CERRERA is still in touch with the ZCMC PETRO for another nurse specialty training – Delivery Room Nurse Training, which will convene in September 2025. Additionally, EAABH gained 3 new EMT graduates through her continuous collaboration.
