She was a clear leader in a very difficult situation. Her calm but assertive communication managed the conflict and sent a powerful message: our nursing staff deserve respect, safety, and advocacy.
Christine Huff, Director of Women’s and Children’s Services, demonstrates extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to her staff’s safety and well-being.

During a recent emotionally charged incident, a physician became verbally aggressive toward one of our staff nurses in the clinical setting. Without hesitation, Christine immediately intervened and escalated the event to the administrative staff. She immediately knew what the next steps in this complex issue would include and spent hours rectifying the situation as she advocated for her staff’s safety and mental health. She was a clear leader in a very difficult situation. Her calm but assertive communication managed the conflict and sent a powerful message: our nursing staff deserve respect, safety, and advocacy.

Christine demonstrates exceptional leadership on a daily basis. She consistently models ethical, compassionate behavior and serves as a steadfast advocate for her team. Over the past several years, she has worked tirelessly to strengthen the Women and Children’s Service Line, a responsibility that intensified following the abrupt and unexpected departure of a major OB/GYN group earlier this year. In the face of uncertainty, Christine remained committed to protecting staff and preserving jobs, exemplifying her dedication to both her team and the broader mission of patient-centered care.

Christine Huff leads with vision and purpose. She inspires others with her dedication to staff wellness and clinical excellence. She has an open-door policy for staff and wants our voices to be heard. Her ability to connect with both frontline staff and executive leadership has not only enhanced communication and workflow but has also elevated the image of nursing across our hospital and the community. She has sacrificed immeasurable time to help make our unit a standout in the community and to be a place where women return to have their second, third, and even fourth babies, even if it now means switching obstetrical providers.

Because of her tireless efforts, we are a safer, stronger, and more compassionate team. Christine exemplifies the values of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
