We were absolutely drowning and short-staffed in the ED with 55 patients in the lobby at 7 PM. Christina Riley was a resource nurse and wasn't able to officially be in an assignment, but took on the front end by herself. I told her I would take on the patients with her, but the chaotic events of the night had me absent from the area for the bulk of the night. Christina took 27 patients from the lobby and provided their care from start to finish. I have seen nurses get overwhelmed with half as many patients in a night. We cleared the lobby for the first time in 11 days on Monday morning. If she had not facilitated it, there would have been almost 30 in the lobby at 0700 instead of 0. This is amazing! As a critical care float nurse, she just jumped in and efficiently met the needs of the waiting room ED patients.
