In Endoscopy almost two years ago, a younger, middle-aged patient received the diagnosis of cancer post procedure. The spouse was at bedside. Christina was taking care of him in recovery, and along with the GI doctor, she was able to address concerns, listen, and ease their minds in a time of fear and the unknown. Christina sat with the scared couple, let them express their feelings, and gave words of encouragement. Her ability to connect on a personal level helped the patient feel understood and supported.

Everything came full circle a little over a year later, after the patient had completed treatment and was back at Health Central for a colostomy reversal! The patient and spouse came to check in at the surgery waiting desk and asked for Christina by name. She spoke with them in pre op and they both expressed their gratitude to her for being so compassionate and caring in one of the lowest times of the patient’s life. Christina makes an immense impact on the lives of the patients we see day in and day out. Her sunny and warm personality is contagious. Christina has a way with words and a gift of communicating with our patients in some of their most vulnerable times, thus easing the fears associated with the procedures we perform.

What truly sets Christina apart is her profound empathy. She goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that her patients feel supported and understood. Christina takes the time to listen to their concerns, provide emotional support, and involve them in their care plans. Her patients consistently express gratitude for her kindness and attentiveness, often citing her as a primary reason for their positive recovery experiences. She’s a superstar, and I’m a better nurse every day because of her!
