I would like to honor an extraordinary nurse, Christina Diaz, whose compassionate care, clinical excellence, and unwavering presence defined what it truly means to be a DAISY Award-worthy nurse.
During the most heartbreaking time of my life, the transition and passing of my mother, she went far beyond the call of duty. She provided not only exceptional clinical care, but also deep, human compassion that my family and I will carry with us forever.
Christina demonstrated passion and compassion in every interaction. She ensured my mother's comfort by advocating for her needs, including requesting orders for Dilaudid to ease her pain and discomfort during her transition. She was attentive, proactive, and deeply committed to preserving my mother's dignity in her final moments.
Her empathy was unmatched. Christina gently explained what to expect as my mother transitioned, helping prepare my family and me for the inevitable with honesty and sensitivity. She didn't just care for my mother-- she cared for all of us. She walked me to the elevator, offering comfort, presence, and reassurance when I needed it most. She hugged me when words fell short, and those hugs meant more than I can ever express.
Christina exemplified trust and teamwork by collaborating seamlessly with the nurse practitioner to ensure my mother received appropriate comfort measures. Her communication was clear, her actions intentional, and her advocacy unwavering.

In one of the most sacred moments, she played my mother's favorite song on her personal device as she transitioned. That act of love and thoughtfulness created a peaceful, meaningful environment that honored my mother's life in the most beautiful way.
