Her career has been defined by her ability to bring comfort in the most difficult moments, offering not only expert medical care but also a warm and reassuring presence.
Christie Dance, BSN, RN, CPON, a dedicated certified pediatric oncology nurse, has spent the past 28 years providing exceptional care, compassion, and unwavering support to her young patients and their families. Her career has been defined by her ability to bring comfort in the most difficult moments, offering not only expert medical care but also a warm and reassuring presence. Christie’s deep commitment to her patients extends beyond the clinic walls—she takes the time to celebrate their milestones, uplift their spirits, and ensure they feel valued during their fight with cancer.

Her kindness and advocacy have made a lasting impact on countless families. Teammates and families alike describe Christie as a beacon of hope, always going above and beyond to make her patients feel cared for. Whether she’s holding a child's hand during a tough procedure, providing words of encouragement to worried parents, or working to improve patient care initiatives, her dedication never wavers. Her ability to connect allows her to bring joy to even the most challenging days. For example, a hug from Christie is more than just an embrace—it is a source of warmth, healing, and comfort. Her genuine care radiates through each interaction, offering strength in difficult moments and reminding everyone that they are never alone.

Christie leads by example, mentoring new nurses with the same empathy and excellence that have defined her career. For the past six years, Christie has served on the board for the Charlotte APHON chapter, dedicating her time to advancing pediatric hematology/oncology education for local nurses. Through her involvement, she has organized educational opportunities to ensure that the highest standards of evidence-based care are shared with nurses across the community. Christie isn’t just a registered nurse—she’s the kind of person who walks into a room and instantly makes it feel lighter. She has this rare gift of knowing exactly what to say (or when to just sit in quiet support), and her patients and their families feel that deeply. Whether it’s through her warm hugs, her steady presence during the hardest moments, or the way she tirelessly advocates for better care, Christie is the heart of our solid tumor team.

After 28 years of nursing, she’s not just leaving an impact—she’s leaving a legacy of kindness that will continue to touch lives for years to come. As we honor Christie with the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award, we celebrate not only her 28 years of extraordinary service but also the countless moments of love, hope, and healing she has provided.
