I would like to nominate my night shift nurse, Christian, for a DAISY Award. I am currently hospitalized and battling osteomyelitis, which has required multiple procedures and time away from my family. This has been an incredibly difficult and emotional experience, but Christian made a lasting impact on my care in a way I will never forget. From the moment he came on shift, Christian treated me as a whole person and not just a patient with a diagnosis. He took the time to talk with me about my life, my recovery, and the challenges I’ve been facing. He showed genuine interest in understanding what I am going through, including the emotional and personal barriers that come with being hospitalized and separated from my family. Christian has a clear passion for medicine and learning. He shared that he is continuing his education toward becoming a physician, and it shows in the way he practices - with intention, curiosity, and a deep commitment to doing things the right way. He is very attentive to safety, protocols, and clinical detail, while still being incredibly warm and approachable. He consistently made sure my room was stocked and that I had everything I needed. He even went above and beyond by bringing me lotion and lip balm, thoughtfully explaining how Colorado’s dry climate can affect skin during recovery. These small but meaningful acts made a huge difference in my comfort. Christian was also kind, professional, and welcoming to my family when they visited. He made sure they felt acknowledged and even offered them drinks, which showed a level of care that extended beyond just me as the patient. What truly sets Christian apart is his balance of professionalism, compassion, and personality. He has a great sense of humor and excellent bedside manner, which helped bring light into a very difficult time for me. Christian exemplifies what it means to be a top-tier nurse. He is not only clinically skilled and detail-oriented, but also deeply compassionate and human in his care. I am incredibly grateful for the role he played in my healing, and I wholeheartedly believe he deserves recognition with a DAISY Award.
