His compassionate approach toward patients, families, and the community embodies the true spirit of nursing.
We are honored to nominate Christian Chino Maverick O. Tagra for the DAISY Award in recognition of his exceptional dedication, resilience, and compassion—qualities that define an SUCN nurse. Chino is a well-loved and well-respected member of our batch, raised by a loving single mother. He is known for his unwavering commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and service to both his peers and the community.
Despite facing personal challenges, Chino has demonstrated remarkable perseverance. During Level I, he traveled two hours daily from his hometown to Dumaguete just to attend classes, never allowing distance to hinder his commitment to his education. As an only child, he has taken on the responsibility of caring for his mother, who suffered a stroke in December 2024 and remains in recovery. Since her mother is still unable to work, Chino has continued to actively provide her with the care and support she needs while continuing to excel in his studies.
Chino's leadership is also evident in his role as the CI representative for I-A3 during Level I (S.Y. 2023-2024) and now as the batch’s secretary. He consistently maintains high academic performance, being among the top students in the class. During the SUCN Quiz Bowl in last school-year’s college week, Chino was part of the team that garnered the championship title—another testament to his excellence in academics. Beyond his personal achievements, however, he is always willing to support his peers, generously sharing his nursing resources, including books and study materials, to help others succeed.
During hospital and community duties, Chino has continuously demonstrated kindness, empathy, and dedication to patient care. His CI group members often commend him for his ability to build strong rapport not only with the patients under his care but also with those who do not have a student nurse assigned to them. This is especially evident in the labor and delivery room, where he actively checks on mothers in labor, providing words of encouragement, offering assistance and guidance, and addressing their concerns to help them navigate the experience. Overall, his compassionate approach toward patients, families, and the community embodies the true spirit of nursing.
For these reasons, we wholeheartedly nominate Christian Chino Maverick O. Tagra for the DAISY Award, as he exemplifies the extraordinary compassion and excellence that this recognition seeks to honor.
