I nominate Chrissa Miller for the DAISY Award in recognition of the profound compassion, creativity, and dedication she demonstrated while caring for a young patient and his family during an incredibly tragic time. This patient, a young father with a wife and small children, was declared brain dead following an unexpected accident. As his family began to process this devastating loss, she recognized the depth of their grief and the importance of creating meaningful, lasting memories. Without hesitation, she went above and beyond her clinical responsibility to provide comfort. She collaborated with the NICU team to get materials for hand molds, creating keepsakes of the patient's hands for his family to hold onto forever. She also painted his hands and created handprints and fingerprints on paper, tangible memories his children and wife can cherish for years to come. These acts of kindness required time, intention, and emotional investment during an already demanding shift, yet she approached it with empathy and grace. She understood that while she could not change the outcome, she could profoundly impact how this family remembers their loved one and navigates their grief.

Although nothing can replace the loss of a husband and father, she gave this family something lasting: a way to hold onto him, to remember him, and to feel connected to him in the years ahead. ICU nurses often support patients and families during their most vulnerable moments, and she exemplified the very heart of nursing. Her willingness to think outside the box, anticipate the unspoken needs of a grieving family, and create something meaningful out of heartbreak embodies what it means to be a DAISY nurse. Her compassion and dedication will never be forgotten. I nominate her for the DAISY Award with gratitude.

Thank you, Christabel, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
